CARDIOVASCULAR
Aerobic or Cardio Vascular Fitness
Probably the most important component for overall fitness, aerobic fitness can be essentially defined as developing endurance through raising your heart rate for a reasonably extended period of time 3 to 5 times a week. Each cardiovascular bout can be 20 to 40 minutes in length through an activity such as brisk walking, running, bicycling, etc. To achieve optimum results, a Target Zone for the heart rate is given and the individual does whatever their preferred activity is while monitoring the heart rate by simply wearing a Heart Rate Monitor during the activity.

STRENGTH
Strength or Muscular Fitness
This component of your overall fitness is where you are able to lift and move objects related to everyday living whether the object is a loaded grocery bag, a yard tool, a vacuum cleaner or changing a tire if it were needed. Depending on your goals and preferences, increasing strength is done through a variety of means and systems. An individual might perform basic exercises such as pushups, squats or Dynamic Tension as well as use weight machines and/or free weights commonly found in a commercial health club, exercise bands, group fitness classes, etc. Being guided through these exercises by a trainer can be particularly advantageous to an individual looking for balanced, measurable results through the most effective means possible. It is not recommended for an individual who has little or no experience in the weight room to attempt weight room exercises without some sort of knowledgeable training or instruction.

Flexibility
This is the ability to move your limbs and other body parts through a range of motion. Different individuals have different degrees of flexibility. Generally, flexibility in the average person can and should be improved upon. A good degree of flexibility for example, can enable us to comfortably reach that object on a high shelf. Flexibility exercises can be done on their own after a warm-up or in conjunction with, but never prior to aerobic exercise and / or strength training.

CORE

ASSESSMENT
Assessment takes a current ‘snapshot’ of the client’s cardiovascular fitness, strength, body composition, flexibility and BMI (where applicable). This snapshot will provide essential information to the trainer and the client so that specific and measurable goals may be established in order to create an individualized exercise program which takes modality, frequency, intensity, duration, progression and enjoyment for the client into consideration.  Assessment would be done at specific intervals in order to track progress, re-order or change priorities and goals, or even ‘raise the bar’ on current goals.
